About Us

We are a, group of chronic pain sufferers.  Before we all got together, each one of us thought that we were the only ones to be suffering in this way.  It was a blessed relief to find out that this was not the case.  When you walk down the street and see someone in a wheelchair, using a walking stick or crutches, or with an arm or leg in plaster, you will know that these people are in pain, but that it may clear up in time.  How do you tell if someone suffers from chronic pain?  You don't know because they look normal, to coin a phrase.  This is the problem that faces people like the members of our group and some members of the medical profession just don't know what to do with us!!  That is why we have used the logo of several pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, to amplify just what being a chronic pain sufferer really means.
  • It's a PUZZLE to us what chronic pain is!
  • It's a PUZZLE to some of the medical profession what chronic pain is!
  • It's a PUZZLE to many of our friends and family what chronic pain is!

Prior to forming this group, we were members of other organisations that offered assistance with pain management etc.,  However on 8th January 2007, we formed this group to dedicate ourselves to concentrating on, giving help and advice to the people of, GLENROTHES and surrounding areas.  This meant that there was more of a localised point of help for chronic pain sufferers instead of a national and somewhat faceless organisation.  Since that date have been going from strength to strength.  We meet in the Rothes Halls, rooms 3/4, adjacent to the Kingdom Shopping Centre in GLENROTHES, approximately every two weeks.

We have allied ourselves to other groups and associations that make it their business to inform others about the help that is available to those who suffer from chronic pain.  By this we help these sufferers to know that they are not alone.

Several of our members need to use electric scooters, or wheelchairs, to get around the Kingdom Shopping Centre and to attend our meetings.  This invaluable equipment is hired from Fife Shopmobility, who are located on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park, adjacent to the shopping centre.  The scooters and wheelchairs can be very well fitted into the scenic lift at the Rothes Halls, so you will be able to come and visit us with ease and not have to worry about climbing the stairs.  In the event of this lift being out of action, just speak to the staff and alternative arrangements are available.  Our meetings are from 2pm till 4pm and you can view our programme for the current year here.  We offer friendship and association to anyone who is a chronic pain sufferer.  So, if you are in this situation or know someone who is, cheer up, you are not alone.  Why not come along to one of our meetings?  You will be made very welcome.

Here's a little wish of sunshine to brighten up your day,

Here's a ray of hope to cheer you and keep those blues at bay.

So don't worry if it's raining and life isn't always fun,

The clouds will quickly pass away and out will pop the sun.

Our meetings are lively and interesting and cover a wide range of topics.  You will find full details of our group and its purposes and aims on our constitution page.  From time to time we have guest speakers who talk on their particular field of activity.  They can include reflexology, acupuncture, relaxation, hypnotherapy and a whole host of other subjects.

A typical meeting programme would look like this:

  •  Welcome by the Chairperson or vice-chairperson
  •  A reading of the minutes of the last meeting by the Secretary
  •  Discussion and debate of a topic relating to chronic pain
  •  A period of relaxation
  •  Tea and coffee

We support ourselves by means of a membership fee, currently £20 per annum, the receiving of donations from individuals and companies.  Applications for lottery and other types of funding are also considered.  The funds are used to purchase equipment for the assistance of pain relief for the members.  These sums are for practical purposes and  not used for the members to have a jolly time.  We are not doctors, nurses or other healthcare professionals.  We are here to provide a hearing ear to those who suffer chronic pain, just as we do.

Everything that is discussed, at our meetings, is extremely confidential.  As the old saying goes, "a problem shared, is a problem halved."  We, as a group, value our privacy and that of any person, or persons, that come to our meetings.  We guarantee that we have not in the past, at the present and will not in the future disclose any personal details, other than that which is required by law, to any individual, company, marketing organisation or indeed anyone at all.  Nobody is allowed to make any sort of personal or company gain, or profit, out of any of our members or their guests.  We also have a vast library of books, tapes and C D's that offer advice on chronic pain relief for our members to listen to and read in the comfort of their own homes.  We organise social events from time to time and visit the Queens Hotel in Perth.  There we take full advantage of the pool and the other facilities that this excellent hotel has to offer.  We make approaches to doctor's surgeries and hospitals to ask them to display one of our posters that will help in the promotion of our group. We appreciate the assistance given by all.  We hope that you will enjoy looking through this website and look forward, not just to hearing from, but also to meeting with you.
